The Wang Foundation for Sight Restoration

The Wang Foundation for Sight Restoration is a registered 501c(3) non-profit charitable organization that provides financial support to help patients for whom all conventional surgeries have failed and who may benefit from reconstructive procedures such an an artificial cornea transplantation. The support enables these special patients to undergo restorative surgeries performed free of charge by the foundation doctors. To date, the foundation has received inquiries from patients from 40 states in the US and from 55 countries worldwide.

Founded by Dr. Ming Wang

The foundation founder, Dr. Ming Wang, is widely published in books and scientific journals, and lectures internationally. He holds a US patent for a new biotechnology to restore sight in patients suffering from corneal blindness. He described the world's first femtosecond laser-assisted Alphacor artificial cornea implantation surgery**, and was a leader of the surgical team responsible for a combined implantation of an artificial cornea and saliva gland transplant in a patient with severe burns to his eyes.

**Use of Intralase for implantation of the Alphacor artificial corneal is not FDA approved, and is performed off-label.

Surgical assistance for those with severely limited vision from the Wang Foundation

The Foundation has received requests  from over 40 states in US and from over 55 countries worldwide. These special surgeries are indicated for patients who have suffered from vision loss when all conventional treatments have failed. These surgeries may include amniotic membrane transplantation, corneal stem cell transplantation, Alphacor artificial corneal transplantation and corneal endothelial cell transplantation.

Dr. Ming Wang at the Wang Foundation for Sight Restoration published the first scientific paper in the world that demonstrated laboratory success in reducing corneal scar and keratocyte apoptosis with amniotic membrane graft. He also obtained a US patent based on this research. On March 29, 2004, the foundation surgeons described the world's first femtosecond laser-assisted Alphacor artificial cornea implantation to restore vision in a patient who suffered severe burns to his face and eyes. This is an off-label use of the Intralase laser and may revolutionlize the technique.

Travel and medications required by these surgeries can be expensive. The Foundation raises funds to help financially qualified patients who may benefit from reconstructive eye surgery to assist them with expenses.

The foundation has successfully raised fund to help these worthy patients, including a $100K grant in 2005 from the James Walter Pickle Charitable Foundation.

Dr. Wang and all foundation medical council surgeons perform these surgeries and all related medical care for the foundation patients free of charge.
